So yeah, I'm more than a little disappointed. I shouldn't have to bend over backwards this hard for a full-priced game from a juggernaut in the games industry. Surely they'd invest more money in the developers to get these kinks ironed out BEFORE launch? Especially when, again, I've had no issues to this degree so far. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this is one of Sony's biggest IP's. The only time I've had a new big-budget game do this to me is Wo-Long, though thankfully that was just the demo.Īnd I understand everyone's specs will be different, which creates a whole host of problems for the developers to fix. My PC isn't a powerhouse by any means, but again, it runs games like Hi-Fi Rush, Scarlet Nexus and the Yakuza games brilliantly. Would I have to reinstall the game again and wait another hour to fix the problem? WOULD that even work? I'm tired, I'm losing my patience, and the product I've spent £50 on isn't fit for purpose at launch, so screw it. I tried looking for a way to delete my save data and also revert the graphics options to default, but at this point, I was gradually losing my chance for a refund. The game is now literally unplayable for me. Now, I can't make it past the first menu of the game whenever I boot it up, and the launcher's graphics options do nothing to help. no luck.Īnd then I royally screw myself over by accidentally flipping the overall graphics options to the highest, and the game crashes. So I tinker around with the graphics some more to try and get the game running at 60fps, and after a few attempts. While I'm here though, I run around a bit, and realise just how slow and choppy the game is. So I reloaded my last checkpoint, and all of a sudden I'm in the dystopic city from the opening cutscene everything before that has been skipped over. Ratchet walks across the sky, and then falls down through the level before any gameplay has even started yet. ![]() Then the cutscene plays like normal, and when the floating platform is supposed to carry Ratchet over to the tutorial area (I only know that's what it was supposed to do because I looked it up after the fact), the floor hasn't loaded in. ![]() So I go back into the game, and lower the settings a considerable amount. The game crashes when Ratchet finally shows up on-screen. And hey, it works now! I only received one crash before finally making it into those graphics settings and tinkering around with them. Besides stating the obvious and shifting the blame onto my computer for not having enough memory to keep up, they did at least point out my NVIDIA drives were outdated, so I get right on that. Then I contact the developers by submitting a ticket and all the relevant information they need. Then the game crashes again, this time on the difficulty menu. Okay, so I learn how to relaunch the launcher, and fiddle with the settings a bit. ![]() ![]() Big mistake on my part, I know, but I thought the worst the game could do was chug with a low framerate, not crash outright. I boot the game up, untick the launcher (since I wanted to see how the game ran before tinkering with the graphics options, and didn't want to see a launcher every time I booted the game up), and it crashed instead. I was really looking forward to finally playing Rift Apart, and I didn't expect to have to deal with these problems when every other triple-A modern release I've played so far works just fine. I'm just a long-time Ratchet fan who's not willing to waste £500 on a machine with barely any worthwhile exclusives, most of which are either timed-exclusives or already available on PS4 and PC. I'm not looking for clout, I've got no vendetta against the franchise or the developers. If you think I'm being melodramatic, let me walk you all through the events that lead to this decision. I didn't want to amass 2 hours of playtime and risk losing my eligibility for a refund, so I had to bite the bullet, despite how much I was looking forward to playing a new Ratchet game. In the end, I decided enough was enough, and I've now requested a refund for the game. To those struggling with this, let me know when the developers finally fix this.Īfter 5 hours of trouble-shooting, I accumulated 80 minutes of playtime finding solutions to each problem that came my way, only to hit a final roadblock preventing me from playing game.
